Idents and stings
an ident, short for identification is a short visual image on television between programmes to identify the channel. the one above is one of many used by channel 4 to show the channels identity. it has a trademark 4 in all of them to make it clear it is the channel.
the purpose of a sting is to catch the audiences attention with a short catchy musical piece. a very common exaple would be those in channel 4's many intros. stings are used to reinforce what channel you are on and that it is a channel 4 production.
